Open to the world, sensibly, yet with character. In addition to the architecture of its two singular buildings, which were part of an old palace from the late 19th century, Hospes Palau de la Mar enchants because it mirrors the values of its city, its people, its history. The origins and the truly authentic are what Hospes guests breathe in. Its select Senzone cuisine offers guests a sublime flavour tour of the produce of Valencias gardens, farms and fisheries. The Bodyna Fitness & Spa offers deep revitalization of body and mind. In the newly inaugurated salon, light and the colors of white and silver merge to create intimate and exclusive spaces. The courtyard, filled with aromas of the world, becomes a natural oasis for the guests.

"Swaggering onto the scene, the Hospes Palau de la Mar announced Valencia's coming of age. An avant-garde group of designers and architects remodeled two 18th-century palaces near the Turia River, balancing original details (ornate carved doors, a marble staircase) with contemporary touches, such as a striking glass-and-steel patio. The 66 bedrooms have dark parquet floors, crisp white bed linens, and free mini-bars."

Travel + Leisure says..."Carved from a 19th-century Edwardian-style manor home, this 50-room hotel is steps from the city's major museums. The effect is of a baronial mansion, with maids in starchy uniforms, concierge staff at your beck and call, and soaring Tiffany windows above an original curving stairwell. A tiny spa has massage treatments and a hammam. Wherever possible, designers worked with the structure of the original home. The presidential suite, for example, retains the rich mahogany walls and books on the shelves that were in place when it was the manor's library. Standard rooms have refinished parquet floors and carved plaster ceilings. Superior rooms overlook leafy Retiro Park. -From Travel + Leisure
