The Riviera Maya is located in Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula in the State of Quintana Roo and nests alongside the Caribbean Sea. Situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya- Fairmont Mayakoba is approximately 42 miles or 70 km south of Cancun- within the Mayakoba resort development; a secure- 240-acre gated community surrounded by canals- shoreline and mangrove forests- which is only accesible via one main entrance point. The mysticism and magic of an ancient culture is still present. Serene sunlight flickers and dances on emerald lagoon waters- and the rolling surf of the Caribbean washes the shore creating a natural symphony of sound and smell. Fairmont Mayakoba Riviera Maya's Mexican home is a unique mixture of interwoven cultures. While the host of free spirits and roamers that have long been attracted to this glorious peninsula have lent to the relaxed local culture a European style and flair for gracious living- travelers can bask in perfect solitude on uninhabited beaches- explore eco-parks or enjoy nearby Playa del Carmen*s exuberant nightlife. Many come to experience Cozumel -one of the world*s premier diving and snorkeling destinations first made famous by famed French marine pioneer Jacques Cousteau- where the warm currents and coral reefs support a breathtaking pantheon of marine life. Others come to explore Chichen Itza- one of the world*s new seven wonders- and experience the fascinating world of the Mayans- whose mythology- science and culture can still be felt today. Most want a taste of it all: the delicate jungle- the alabaster white sand beaches- the crystal clear turquoise water- the fine cuisine and the spectacular nightlife!

Travel + Leisure says...
"City Hotel. Restaurateur Rogério Fasano established himself as a tastemaker par excellence with his flagship Fasano hotel in São Paulo. And now, the opening of the second Fasano, in Rio's perennially chic Ipanema, sees his talent for infusing environments with social cachet reach critical mass. To design the 91 rooms, Fasano made an unexpected choice: Philippe Starck, whose penchant for provocation (not to mention plastic) doesn't intuitively jibe with laid-back Carioca chic. But it works. Fasano's own preference for warm, natural palettes seems to have toned Starck down. Rooms and suites are spare and breezy, with white walls, leather-upholstered Mies daybeds, Amazonian wood side tables, and at least two burnished Sergio Rodrigues chairs."

"The crowd: You have to be a guest to get access, so you'll find Brazilian models back home for a visit (or photo shoot), film crews, model scouts, and international fashion designers all mixing it up on the top deck.
How's the water? Sizzling. Located on the rooftop, with views of the sexiest swath of Ipanema Beach, this infinity pool is the hottest ticket in the Marvelous City. Bossa nova plays in the background, the waters are lit up at night, and beautiful people abound. The real fireworks occur at sunset, when the orb drops over Two Brothers Mountain (pictured) and everyone applauds.
The poolside tipple: Sip a sweet caipirinha so you'll be brave enough to don a Brazilian-style swimsuit. Think very, very small. (But remember, going topless is illegal.)
The hotel: This Philippe Starck designed property is a welcome addition to Rio's fusty hotel scene. Its whimsical design includes 1950s furniture, yellow onyx lamps, and a huge pekia tree that doubles as a check-in desk. Since it's on the beach, touches such as providing guests with Havaianas flip-flops are spot-on. (Be sure to request an ocean-view room, though, or you might find yourself staring at a brick wall.) If the lobby-as-nightclub scene is your thing, try the chic Baretto/Londra lounge Gisele has already christened it with her dancing booty."
