The Dolder Grand, luxury-class city resort, is in unique Location between the pulsating life of the city of Zurich and a refreshingly natural green zone.
Juicy Tidbits
Travel + Leisure says..."It's rare that a hotel feels both stolidly conservative and explosively futuristic, but that's the effect architect Norman Foster has achieved with his redesign of the Dolder Grand, in Zurich. The hilltop property overlooks the city and lake, and the original 1899 faade and turrets, now restored, are flanked by dramatic new stone-and-glass buildings, the Golf Wing and the Spa Wing. Inside, gently curving hallways evoke a 2001: A Space Odyssey sort of mood, and wooden doors open to reveal quietly modern guest roomsaoff-white leather upholstery, smoked-oak flooring, and private terraces."-From www.travelandleisure.comConde Nast Traveler says..."Set high in the hills, 1,500 metres above Zrich, this former kurhaus (traditional health spa) has been transformed by Norman Foster into one of the sleekest new urban resorts in the world. Foster's design marries a pair of new wings covered in an abstract forest pattern with the turreted, fairy-tale charm of the original belle Apoque structure. One wing houses the 21-treatment-room spa crafted from local limestone, American walnut and dark oak, and staffed by a team of mostly European therapists and specialists offering the sacred (yoga, meditation, shiatsu) and the profane (Botox and other cosmetic 'touch-ups'). Spacious and grand, with both 'steam' and 'snow' zones, the spa is traversed via a winding stone 'canyon' that leads from a domed meditation space to a black-bottomed pool and on to a trio of alfresco Jacuzzis with prime Zrich views. The other wing (which faces a nine-hole golf course) houses the 173 new bedrooms, all with floor-to-ceiling windows and eight-head showers, and most with small balconies. The lights, music and curtains are controlled by an integrated (and surprisingly useful) console. The formal restaurant, which serves an inventive take on traditional Swiss dishes by young chef Heiko Nieder, was granted a Michelin star less than a year after it opened."-From www.cntraveller.com

Travel + Leisure says..."Baronial castle dating from the 16th century on the edge of Lough Dromoland, 10 minutes north of Shannon; it's one of Ireland's most storied castles, in a fairy-tale setting, to boot." -From Travel + LeisureConde Nast Traveler says..."At the end of a curved drive past a walled garden and lake, this 16th-century castle has paneled corridors, tasseled drapes, and coats of armor that create an "old-world feel." Rooms showcase Empire furnishings and Canovas wallpaper. The formal oak dining room serves "fresh, delicious local seafood and meat dishes to harp strains; even the casual pub presents club sandwiches on china. Staff "do everything to fulfill your needs." " -From Conde Nast TravelerNational Geographic Traveler Says..."This lakeside castle's got cred. Retrofitted with carbon-neutral wood-chip boiler and energy-saving fixtures (enjoy the clever power showers), this is the greenest castle on the Emerald Isle. It's also the most castlelike: tasseled drapes, suits of armor, ancestral portraits. You're king/queen for a day in a regal turret suite. Harpist plays in formal restaurant. Rowboats, mountain bikes are free for exploring the estate's 410 acres." -From National Geographic Traveler
