Juicy TidbitsTravel + Leisure says..."Why It’s Unique: Six private tree houses, with two stately suites in each, are on the 130-acre grounds of Chewton Glen in the Hampshire countryside near New Forest National Park. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic canopy views, as does a spacious outdoor terrace, with a hot tub and daybeds, 35 feet above ground. How This Juicy Hotel Benefits Its Local Community
ABORIGINAL CHAMPIONS PROGRAM During the past 15 years, Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa has created a highly successful training, employment, mentoring and management model for Aboriginal people to become proficient in the work force whilst also being exposed to their own culture, language and lore. Over 50 Aboriginal personnel have been trained and employed into a variety of highly skilled positions within the tourism, hospitality and wellbeing sector. Many have been able to make decisions regarding further employment, development of career paths and lifestyle choices. The majority of the personnel started at the Lodge as long term unemployed or inexperienced and each was given the opportunity of on the job training, subsequent employment which in a lot of cases led to further success, in employment, life skills and career advancement. Some of the Champions have established their own successful businesses, have purchased homes, vehicles, boats. Others have achieved tertiary education at universities and NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts). Until July 2010, all employment, training, mentoring and associated costs were funded independently through Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa. The current trainees are engaged through a Government strategy for one year. Future Aboriginal Employment There are many opportunities to grow the Aboriginal employment and training model through plans which include tracks and trails making/guiding, ranger station, horticulture, art and craft, cottage industries, river and land experiences including hunting and fishing, wellness modalities, cultural museum, carpentry and building. In a world that is quickly losing its indigenous traditions, we are not! |
