Hot on the heels of the huge success of The Soho Hotel, London hoteliers Tim and Kit Kemp open the Haymarket Hotel at the end of March 2007, their seventh London property. A bold step away from cookie-cutter minimalism, Haymarket Hotel fuses contemporary and classical references in an ultra-central London Location Its a landmark building designed by the legendary John Nash, the master architect who developed most of Regency London, including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, and the adjoining Haymarket Theatre. The hotel comprises 50 individually designed bedrooms and suites, an exclusive four level townhouse, a bar and restaurant (serving northern Italian cuisine), and library. There will also be several private event spaces as well as a gym, treatment room, and a spectacular 18 metre pool with a bar, lounge and nightclub sound and lighting system. The lobby is a clean airy space featuring a large stainless steel sculpture by Tony Cragg and paintings by John Virtue, while the downstairs pool features a spectacular lighting scheme that uses strong contrasts of light and shadow. Grey oak dominates the lobby and library, and handpicked antiques and original art help jumble past and present. Guest Rooms are individually furnished and avoid the designer formula look with custom-made pieces and much emphasis on rich texture and colour. From the shagreen coffee tables to ivory wood-toned pieces, they evoke contrast and comfort at every level. Haymarket Hotel is sister hotel to The Soho Hotel, Covent Garden Hotel, Charlotte Street Hotel, Number Sixteen, The Pelham Hotel and Knightsbridge Hotel all situated in central London.

"City Hotel. Why not have some fun! may well have been what Kit Kemp said as she released her arsenal of bold colors and supergraphic effects on the public spaces of the former American Express London headquarters in the heart of the theater district. Masters of the clubby/cozy/contemporary (e.g., London's Soho Hotel, Knightsbridge Hotel, and one of our all-time favorites, Charlotte Street Hotel), the designer and her husband and business partner Tim Kemp know how to create properties that strike a perfect balance between a classic English manor and a buzzy film and art-world haunt."

"City Hotel. Restaurateur Rogério Fasano established himself as a tastemaker par excellence with his flagship Fasano hotel in São Paulo. And now, the opening of the second Fasano, in Rio's perennially chic Ipanema, sees his talent for infusing environments with social cachet reach critical mass. To design the 91 rooms, Fasano made an unexpected choice: Philippe Starck, whose penchant for provocation (not to mention plastic) doesn't intuitively jibe with laid-back Carioca chic. But it works. Fasano's own preference for warm, natural palettes seems to have toned Starck down. Rooms and suites are spare and breezy, with white walls, leather-upholstered Mies daybeds, Amazonian wood side tables, and at least two burnished Sergio Rodrigues chairs."

"The crowd: You have to be a guest to get access, so you'll find Brazilian models back home for a visit (or photo shoot), film crews, model scouts, and international fashion designers all mixing it up on the top deck.
How's the water? Sizzling. Located on the rooftop, with views of the sexiest swath of Ipanema Beach, this infinity pool is the hottest ticket in the Marvelous City. Bossa nova plays in the background, the waters are lit up at night, and beautiful people abound. The real fireworks occur at sunset, when the orb drops over Two Brothers Mountain (pictured) and everyone applauds.
The poolside tipple: Sip a sweet caipirinha so you'll be brave enough to don a Brazilian-style swimsuit. Think very, very small. (But remember, going topless is illegal.)
The hotel: This Philippe Starck designed property is a welcome addition to Rio's fusty hotel scene. Its whimsical design includes 1950s furniture, yellow onyx lamps, and a huge pekia tree that doubles as a check-in desk. Since it's on the beach, touches such as providing guests with Havaianas flip-flops are spot-on. (Be sure to request an ocean-view room, though, or you might find yourself staring at a brick wall.) If the lobby-as-nightclub scene is your thing, try the chic Baretto/Londra lounge Gisele has already christened it with her dancing booty."

"Beach Hotel. Surely the new J.K. Place Capri is one of Europe's most stylish recent openings. And that it can be found on Capri which, despite its reputation, still has some unspoiled corners is music to our hotel-obsessed ears. This charming spot is sing-out-loud gorgeous, and in its mellow atmosphere, we felt like we were staying at a chic friend's house. The design is nautical with a twist: round porthole-style interior windows, sea-blue walls, crisp white sofas, bronze imitation Greek statues, and houndstooth-print stools. Guests have complete run of the house; we loved picking fresh chilies from the garden to sprinkle on pasta at lunch, and drinking Bellinis on the terrace while watching the bathers on the beach below."

Travel + Leisure says..."Philippe Starck's public-space redo of this Paris institution, adjacent to the picturesque Tuileries gardensaincluding the bar and three-Michelin-starred restaurantabrought surreal new touches like a refrigerator-cooled mirror that's literally frosted, and three-legged tables dressed in fancy shoes. All tradition wasn't cast aside: Italian craftsmen were brought in to restore the lobby's green-and-white marble floors. Rooms, which were themselves renovated in 1998, are starting to show their age, so modern touches like iPod docks set upon the 18th-century furnishings are welcome. It's all complemented by lots of gilt, and no less than 100 yards of Rubelli and BranqueniA fabrics in each room. For such upscale digs, the Meurice is surprisingly family-friendly, offering plenty of family packages and loaning custom-made boats for sailing in the adjacent Tuileries' boat pond.

" -From Travel + LeisureConde Nast Traveler says..."On rue de Rivoli, this 1835 landmark hotel "overlooks the Tuileries Garden with a view of the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, and Eiffel Tower." French designer Charles Jouffre's redesign of the hotel's rooms and suites updated the classic furniture and introduced a palette of light colors and bright accents. Le Meurice restaurant reinterprets French standards, hence dishes like sea urchin with bouillabaisse gelAe." -From Conde Nast Traveler

"Beach Hotel. If ever you had any doubt about the arrival of the Riviera Maya, a once-sleepy stretch of sand 40 miles south of Cancún, then try booking a room at the new Mandarin Oriental, one of the most anticipated hotel openings this year (we had to put our name on two waiting lists to get in). Hassle aside, it's easy to see why the property is red-hot. The winning Mandarin formula exemplary service, forward-reaching design, a first-rate spa has taken root in a pristine Mexican coastal environment. Acres of mangrove forest, including an on-site cenote, surround a lovely albeit small stretch of powdery sand. The 128 boxy white villas give beach chic new meaning, with polished stone floors, rough limestone walls, spare four-poster beds, and sculptures by prominent Mexican artists. We'll admit, we did experience a bit of sticker shock at checkout. But it's worth it. This is the most sophisticated resort on Mexico's eastern coast."
